״MOVEMENT IN CAPTURE” project is another link
in my investigation of the subject of movement and its capture.

It is based on two previous seminars I wrote on this subject of dance combined with other mediums of art.
The first seminar had explored how dance and movement can inspire music and how dance can enhance the experience of music.






















The second seminar is reviewing how mankind tried to document and capture movement throughout history, starting from cave paintings, then Renaissance and 19th-20th-century dance notations, Muybridge photographs and to this present day, the  Motion Capture suit, which was used for this project.

Imitation through movement is the primary tool for human development, as it allows for the expression that surpasses the human mind.

It is one that does not require the rational mind since it is intuitive and has a direct influence on the body.

A study led by Rachel McDonnell from the  Neuroscience Institute of Trinity College in Dublin found that it is actually the movement of a human figure character that would trigger feelings.

Since the movement itself is the element that creates a sense of empathy and connection more than the human representation itself.


The commercial use of dance in an attempt to convey a message is a tool in the hands of the music industry to promote itself using movement.

It can strengthen and emphasize the music through identifying with the dancers and creating an inner movement experience.

This is why dancers are regarded as the operators of music. They give music a form, an image and a message that can be passed to the next generations, Simply, by movement.

The passion for dance has evoked the desire to teach it, and the obstacle of recording and documenting it came into light as the reproduction of it would allow for its survival.

However, various tools and methods to document this throughout history have not been successful as they have failed to create a medium that would convey a message.
